The background is rendered in shades of blue and turquois and is interrupted by angular shapes shaded in black and white. Máro’s paintings are deeply influenced by his teacher Willi Baumeister, who was one of the most important representatives of classical modernism and the avant-garde movement of the 1940s to the 1950s in Germany. Baumeister created non-figural works that were closely related to the artistic output of El Lissitzky, Kazimir Malevich, Vassily Kandinsky, Fernand Léger and Le Corbusier.
